AUGUSTA - Andrew Harris Clarke, 47, of Augusta died at his home on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004. He was born in Philadelphia on Aug. 3, 1957. He grew up in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and was educated at Valley Forge Academy. He was self-employed in the wholesale auto-parts industry. Andrew and his wife moved to Maine in 2001, living in Belfast. They moved to Augusta in 2002. They attended Cox Memorial United Methodist Church in Hallowell. Mr. Clarke was a volunteer at Bread of Life Ministries and was known as a 'gentle giant.' He had a great sense of humor and a special way of feeling the needs of others and a desire to help them. Andrew is survived by his wife, Bette Jean Clarke, and his beloved dog, Mercedes. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cox Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made to Bread of Life Ministries, 157 Water St., Augusta 04330.
