READFIELD ? Angie M. (Pingree) Elvin, 96, died at her home on Wednesday, June 26, 2002. She was born in Ripley, March 19, 1906, the daughter of Elmer E. and Elnora J. (Cooley) Pingree. Angie attended Augusta schools, graduating from Cony High School. She worked as a telephone operator for a short time before being employed as an office worker at Hazard Shoe and later at Fifield Brothers. On Jan. 22, 1932, she married Eric O.A. Elvin of Readfield, to whom she was married for 68 years before his death on Dec. 24, 2000. She was a life member of R.B. Capen Rebekah Lodge of Augusta, a life member of the Grange, master of Readfield Grange for 10 years and secretary for 28 years, member of the Maine State Grange and National Grange, an affiliated member of Capital Grange in Augusta, serving as master for one year, as well as a life member of Kennebec Pomona 4. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Kents Hill, where she was past secretary and treasurer of the UMW Club for 18 years, a member of the YNI Club of Manchester for 50 years, a life member and officer of Lafayette Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and treasurer for the Readfield Senior Citizens for 10 years. She was the first female president of the local Farm Bureau group, member of the Women's Extension, member of the Friendly Neighbors Senior Citizens Club of West Gardiner and a volunteer of the Army Air Force Aircraft Warning Service Rescue in 1944. Mrs. Elvin was predeceased by her husband; one brother, Lester Pingree; two sisters, Vera Pingree Hall and Elizabeth Pingree Herrick; and a grandson and great-granddaughter. She is survived by her two sons, Eric Elmer Elvin of Kents Hill and Arthur Clyde Elvin of Kissimmee, Fla; her daughter, Ellen Creamer, of Readfield; one brother, Elwin Pingree of Dover-Foxcroft; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, with the Rev. John Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at East Readfield Cemetery.
