AUGUSTA - Carolyn M. Daley, 87, of Augusta, died Sunday April 25, 2011 at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center. \r\r\n\r\r\nShe was born in Augusta, April 1, 1924, the daughter of Daniel and Dorella (Parent) Daley. \r\r\n\r\r\nCarolyn graduated from Cony High School in 1942 and went on to attend George Washington University. While in Washington, D.C., she worked for the Department of Labor. She married Alan Gray and moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., where she lived for 47 years, working for Pan Am and several other companies doing statistics. In 1995, after the death of her beloved son, Bobby, she returned to Maine and went to work for the National Council on Aging; Big Brothers, Big Sisters; Families First; United Way and the Maine Department of Labor. \r\r\n\r\r\nKay was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church, was past president of the Women's Auxiliary, Post 2 American Legion, volunteered at the Bread of Life soup kitchen and enjoyed spending time using her computer. She made many friends and enjoyed socializing with them. She especially loved all things Irish. \r\r\n\r\r\nMs. Daley was predeceased by her son, Robert J. Golden Jr.; her brother, Daniel; and her niece, Penny Daley. \r\r\n\r\r\nShe is survived by her cousin, Dorothy Horne, of Winslow; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Tessman, of Augusta; as well as several other cousins and nieces. \r\r\n\r\r\nA memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church on Friday April 29, at 12:30 p.m. Spring burial will occur in the Village Cemetery in North Vassalboro. \r\r\n\r\r\nMemorial donations may be made to Bread of Life Ministries, 157 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330; or the Activities Department of Augusta Rehabilitation, 188 Eastern Ave., Augusta, ME 04330. \r\r\n\r\r\nKay's family would like to extend a special thank-you to the wonderful hospice workers who helped her. \r\r\n\r\r\nArrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. \r\r\n\r\r\nCondolences may be sent to the family through www.khrfuneralhomes.com.
