AUGUSTA - Doris P. Harvey, 90, of Willow Street, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at MaineGeneral Medical Center as the result of a fall at her residence. She was born in Augusta on Feb. 9, 1918, the daughter of Afton and Iola (Casey) Porter. She graduated from Cony High School and married John 'Alton' Jaquith on May 14, 1938. They lived in Homestead, Fla., and she worked at the Homestead Air Base where Alton was stationed. During WWII, Alton was transferred to Nome, Alaska, and Doris returned to Maine to work at Bath Iron Works. After the war, they lived in Vassalboro, where she was a member of the Rebekahs, the Center Vassalboro Community Church Ladies Aid and the PTA. Her husband died in November 1969 and Doris moved back to Augusta. On April 8, 1978, she married Kenneth Harvey. She was a member of the Get to Gather Senior Citizen Club and enjoyed doing arts and crafts, playing cards, going out to eat and taking trips in the city van. Kenneth Harvey died in 1999. She was also predeceased by her parents, a brother, Arthur Porter, sisters-in-law Charlotte Porter and Mary Porter, step-mother Doris Porter and a niece, Doreen Phair. She is survived by a son, John A. Jaquith Jr. and his wife, Diana, of Augusta; a stepson, Richard Harvey and his wife, Betty, of Augusta; two brothers, Emmons Porter and his friend, Gilda, of Winslow and Fred Bailey and his wife, Lucille, of Vassalboro; a sister, Nancy Seigars and her husband, Frank, of Windsor; sister-in law Mildred Coosard and her husband Gere; three grandchildren, Betsy Browne and her husband Jason, John R. Jaquith and his wife Pamela and James Littlefield and his wife Ronda; eight great grandchildren, Andrew, Kyle, Scott, Mark, Amy and Anna Marie Littlefield and John and Shenez Jaquith; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting will be held Monday, Feb. 25 from 4-7 p.m. at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1 Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Spring burial will be in the Dyer Hill Cemetery, Windsor.
