AUGUSTA - Ethel Jennie Morrill of Augusta, died peacefully early Wednesday morning at Maine General Medical Center with her loving children by her side. Ethel was born in Portland, Maine, May 7, 1918 to Ethel Jennie and John Joseph Bowen. She was the second of seven children. She attended Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1936. In April of 1942, Ethel married Douglas M. Morrill and they celebrated 59 wonderful years together before his passing in June, 2001. Ethel devoted her time and love to supporting her husband through law school and later in life through seminary when he became an Episcopal priest. She lovingly raised five children, Douglas Morrill, Jr. of Simsbury, CT, Jamie Morrill of Sydney, ME, Pamela Kaler of Hot Springs, AR, Victoria Morrill of Portland, ME and Donna Veilleux of Farmingdale, ME. Ethel was also very much a part of the lives of her twelve grandchildren: Melissa, Sarah, Jennifer, David, Lindsay, Amy, Michael, Emily, Douglas, Blair, Jeffrey and Lucas. Ethel was a longtime resident of Meadow Park apartments where she was cherished by many friends. She also lived in Northeast Harbor, Maine for ten years where her husband was the rector of St. Mary?s by the Sea, and St. Jude?s Episcopal Church. Her wonderful sense of humor, deep personal faith and gentle, caring nature touched those around her. Ethel was extremely active in the Episcopal Church worshipping both at St. Marks in Augusta and later at St. Matthews in Hallowell. Her life of unselfish dedication and charity to others has left this world a better place. Ethel is predeceased by her husband, The Reverend Douglas Morrill, and three of her sisters, Frances Quarrington, Mildred Jacobsky and Jacqueline Waugh. She is survived by her brother Robert Bowen of Greenland, NH and her sisters Gwendolyn Jodrie of Portland, ME and Hazel Knutti of Mission Viejo, CA. She is also survived by two daughters-in-law, Carol Morrill and Diane Morrill and three sons-in-law, Richard Kaler, Mark Shain, and Jeffrey Veilleux. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the memorial fund to benefit St. Mark?s and St. Matthew?s Episcopal Churches. Checks may be made payable to St. Matthew?s Church, 20 Union St. in Hallowell, ME 04347 in memory of Ethel Morrill. Relatives and friends may visit at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta, Wednesday 3 to 7pm. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday March 8th at 11:00 AM at St Mark?s Episcopal Church 9 Summer St. Augusta, Maine. Burial will be Friday at 1:00pm at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
