WINTHROP - Hal S. Weisberger, 56, died of complications following liver transplant surgery on Monday, May 7, 2007 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts. He was born in Troy, New York on January 27, 1951, the son of William and Phyllis (Winkler) Weisberger. Hal graduated from Gardiner High School, class of 1969, and earned a Political Science degree from the University of New Mexico. He received his Law degree from Gonzaga Law School, which is where he met his wife to be, Paula Klosterman. Shortly after passing the Maine Bar in 1980, moving to Winthrop and establishing his law practice in Augusta, Hal married Paula on August 31st, 1980 at his family camp in Manchester. Most important to Hal was spending time with his wife, his children and their friends, his large extended family and many friends. He loved coaching his daughter, Bethany, and his son, Joel, in various sports which included AAU basketball, travel teams and recreational teams on which they participated throughout their schooling. He enjoyed golfing, watching movies, visiting casinos, listening to music and going to the theater. He was also proud to have made over 500 sky diving jumps. Those who knew and loved Hal will remember him for his wonderful sense of humor and how he was almost never on time. He was a member of the Augusta Country Club where he was also on the Board of Directors. He was a member of various legal associations and an active member with the Maine Bar Association, where he was recognized on July 25th, 1994 for his ?outstanding volunteer service?. His family believes Hal felt strongly about organ donation and giving blood on a regular basis. They feel he would urge everyone who knew and loved him to consider these two life changing gifts we all have to offer to someone in need. Hal was predeceased by his father, William, and a son, Isaac Weisberger. He is survived by his mother, Phyllis, of Bonita Springs, FL; his wife, Paula, of Winthrop; his daughter and son, Bethany of Brooklyn, NY and Joel of Winthrop and Wake Forest University; his brother, Dr. Steven Weisberger & wife, Teri, of Jonesport; his three sisters, Jeri Stevens & husband, Douglas, of Sidney, Randi Cohen & husband, Bill, of Columbus, OH and Lori Hancock & husband, Dave, of Bonita Springs, FL; several nieces and nephews along with his large extended family and many friends. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2:00-7:00 pm on Saturday, May 12th at the family camp on Fire Road 620 ? off the Pond Road in Manchester. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta, with Rabbi Susan Bulba Carvutto officiating.
