Obituary

Bonita Springs, Florida ~ Helen H. Cole, 94, formerly of Winthrop, Maine and Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, died peacefully at Joanne Hospice House in Bonita Springs, Florida. She was born in Skowhegan, Maine, May 25, 1922 the daughter of Harold and Golda (Keene) Holden. She grew up in the Augusta area and Helen was a graduate of Cony High School. She married Stanleigh Cole and the two of them moved quite a bit. During Helen’s time, living in Winthrop, she restarted the Sunday School program. All that met Helen, described her as a gentle, “Sweet lady” Wherever Helen landed, she became active in the Congregational Church, local garden clubs and the local library, sharing her love of both gardening and books. Her favorite times were when her family from New England visited her in Florida. Helen was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Stanleigh, and her brother, Edward Holden. She is survived by her sons, Peter Cole, of Melvin Village, NH and Stanleigh Cole, of Minturn, Colorado; her daughter, Carol Cole LaClair, of Bonita Springs, Florida; her grandsons, Scott Laclair, Nick Cole, and Christopher Cole; granddaughter, Lacey Cole; her brother, Gene Holden, of Winthrop, Maine and six great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at the Winthrop Congregational Church, 10 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop on Thursday October 6, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so are encouraged to make a donation to the Winthrop Congregational Church, Sunday School Program, 10 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop, Maine 04364 Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop.
