Belgrade ~ John J. Stanley, 87, of the Dunn Road, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born in Ellsworth on October 21, 1930, the son of Burley and Jennie (Wilcox) Stanley. He attended Ellsworth schools and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John had worked for Sparhawk Mill in Yarmouth and in 1996 retired from Stultz Electric in Westbrook. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed woodworking, traveling and taking his yearly trips to Disney World. But more than anything, John loved spending time with his family! He was a respected and admired man by many. Strong in his faith, John was a longtime member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Augusta. John was predeceased by a daughter Gale Townsend in 2012, as well as three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Pauline Stanley of Belgrade; three sons, John Perkins of Machias, Larry Stanley of Damariscotta and Robert Clark of Fairbanks, Alaska; three daughters, Mary Stanley of Cumming, GA., Betty Stanley of Yarmouth and Ellie Clark of Chelsea; also survived by 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visiting hours. A celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 21, at the First United Pentecostal Church, Rt. 27 in Augusta. Burial will be at later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, Belgrade.
