AUGUSTA ~ Joseph B. Shaw, 98, of Augusta, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Thursday December 21, 2017 at the Togus Veterans Hospital. He was born in Augusta, June 7, 1919 the son of Fred and Abigail (Carleton) Shaw. He graduated from Cony High School. Joe entered the U.S. Army, serving from 1944 to 1946 in Central Europe as part of the Seventh Army, 63rd Infantry Division. He attained the rank of Tech 5. After the war, he returned to work in the woods as part of Shaws Lumber. Later, he worked for Rossi’s Construction and several other companies, in to his eighties. Joe loved the woods, trees and working in the garden on his special “JOMA” potatoes. Mr. Shaw was predeceased by his wife, Marion; his siblings, Winnifred, Freddie, Grace, Stanley, and Hazel and two of his children, Rochelle and Eric (Ricky). He is survived by his son, Brad Shaw along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may visit at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta, Thursday December 28 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will be held in the spring at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
