Augusta ~ Merrill Stanley Vincent, 94, of Augusta, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2014. \r\r\n\r\r\nHe was born in Augusta on November 1, 1920, the son of William Stanley and Gladys (Merrill) Vincent. \r\r\n\r\r\nHe was educated in the Augusta School system and then had worked in various fields of occupation until he served his country in World War II as a hospital orderly. On December 19,1944, he married Jeannette Trask in Augusta. Merrill was a dedicated and loving husband who loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. Merrill and his beloved Jenny celebrated 66 wonderful years together. \r\r\n\r\r\nMerrill was known as “Augusta’s Walking Man” as it was his main mode of travel. He was a longtime volunteer member of the City of Augusta Fire Department. Merrill was also employed by the State of Maine, Department of Labor for 35 years. Merrill loved life and he loved his Savior Jesus Christ. He was an enthusiastic boxing spectator and participant. He always enjoyed holiday gatherings with family and friends. \r\r\n\r\r\nMerrill was predeceased by his parents and his loving wife. \r\r\nHe is survived by his 5 children; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. \r\r\n\r\r\nAt his request there will be no visiting hours and services will be private.
