HALLOWELL - Mildred Rose Jacob Donaldson, 100, of Hallowell changed her mode of existence Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Gray Birch, in Augusta. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Oct. 26, 1907, the daughter of Arnold and Anna Louise (Wilhelm) Jacob. In 1931, she married Walter K. Lesser and they were married until his death in 1956. She married John Donaldson in 1963 and they were happily married for 26 years. Mildred spent most of her life on Long Island, N.Y., and moved to Maine in 1997 to be near her daughter, Arlene Innes, of Wayne. Despite severe macular degeneration, she lived by herself until she was 100 years old, under the loving watchful eye of her daughter. She had recently moved to the Woodlands Assisted Living Center where she enjoyed socializing, participating in the activities and walking outdoors. Family, friends and doctors agree she certainly was an incredible woman and she was ready to meet her maker that she cherished so much. On Feb. 5, 2007, at age 99, Mildred was honored as the oldest resident of Readfield and was honored again in Hallowell on July 8, 2008. She was a fun-loving, adventurous woman with a wonderful sense of humor, as well as unlimited stamina and energy. Mildred was predeceased by a stepson, John Allen Donaldson. Mrs. Donaldson is survived by her son, Walter A. Lesser and his wife, Eleanore, of Elkins, W. Va.; her daughter, Arlene Innes, of Wayne; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
