READFIELD ~ Patricia Ann Pelton passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday April 18, 2016, surrounded by the love of all her family. Pat was born on March 21,1933 in Brookline, Massachusetts to her parents, Norman and Jessica Hayden. After Graduating from Cony High School in Augusta, Maine, she married her soul mate, Donald Pelton, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage. After raising her 4 children Pat went back to college at the University of Maine, Farmington earning a degree in special education. With that in hand, she worked her way up to become the Executive Director of what was formerly known as The Kennebec Council for Retarded Citizens. She applied for, and was provided with grants from the State and Federal Government where she created Uplift Incorporated. This company provided housing and employment for the developmentally disabled and mentally challenged. It was later taken over by the Goodwill Industries. Pat was a formidable card player and voracious reader, who enjoyed arts and crafts, knitting and crocheting. She loved to camp and spend time with friends and family. Pat was also very involved in her community. She was a den mother in Cub Scouts, and a Brownie leader. She was a fixture at all of her children’s many sporting events. Her love of sports led her to be the greatest cheerleader. Pat was also very active in her church. She sang and directed the choir at the Kents Hill Methodist Church, and coordinated Vacation Bible School each summer when her children were growing up. Pat was predeceased by her daughter, Kimberly, and grandson Ryan In addition to her husband, Pat is survived by her children, David and his wife Colleen of Downingtown, Pa., Rick and his wife Barbara of Freedom, New Hampshire, Edward and his wife Nancy of Lancaster, Pa., in addition to 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their thanks for the loving care Patricia received from the staff at the Glenridge Nursing facility and the MaineGeneral Medical center.. There will be no visiting hours but a celebration of her life will be held at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop on Friday May 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the East Readfield Cemetery.
