WINTHROP …well thought of, oft remembered…Winthrop resident Pauline Ella Richardson Gove, wife of Afton, passed away October 14 at Maine General Hospital. A North Monmouth girl, educated at the Academy and class of 1949 Salutatorian, Pauline grew up on the Richardson family farm, after being birthed by old Doc Russell on May 27, 1931. Polly and Afton enjoyed 65 years together and raised three children: Audrey, Alan and Jerilyn at their Old Lewiston Road home. Pauline was pre-deceased by her folks Jesse Amase Richardson and Evelyn Jordan Richardson, her two daughters Audrey and Jerilyn, and two sisters Janice Doyon and Jean Brackett. She is survived by her husband Afton, her son Alan and his wife Nancy of Mercer and their children: Jesse Alan Gove of Skowhegan, Meghan Emily Gove of Portland, Oregon, Brett Gordon LaPlante of Skowhegan, Nicholas Spencer Gove and his wife Mary and their daughter Charlotte of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Ryal Leon Gove of Mercer, Granddaughter Lindsay May Heath Beesley and her husband Robert and their son Luke of Lewiston. She is also survived by two sisters Geraldine Brackett and Joanne Ricker and several nieces and nephews. Pauline worked at Wilson’s Dollar Store, Coopers Market and at home caring for numerous infants and pre-school children. She was generally busy cooking, mending, canning, knitting, caning chairs and gardening. She grew flowers, enjoyed a good story and liked photography. She and Afton, and sometimes Audrey (and Jerilyn) traveled and enjoyed some nice vacations. Another favorite for Pauline was spending time at their camp on Parker Pond with family and friends. In the 1960’s and 70’s, numerous camping trips were made, including Hermit Island – another favorite family spot. Pauline was a long time member of the Winthrop Grange. Many people will remember Polly as a considerate person, with a ready smile. The family will have a Celebration of Life at the Winthrop Grange Hall on Saturday, October 18th from 1 to 4 p.m. following a private graveside ceremony. Friends and family are welcome.
