AUGUSTA ~ Penny J. McKenna, 53, died Saturday July 22, 2017 at the Androscoggin Hospice House, after a long battle with cancer. She was born March 30, 1964 in Skowhegan, Maine. Penny attended Farmington schools and graduated from Mt. Blue High School in 1982 and then from CMMC School of Nursing in 1984. She worked as a Charge Nurse in ICU and Maternal Child Health Labor & Delivery and retired from Maine Municipal Association working in case management for injured workers. She had a great love of animals and volunteered at the Franklin County Animal Shelter throughout high school and college. She also volunteered at the New England Organ Bank and Maine Breast Cancer Coalition. She enjoyed reading, animals, riding horses, crafts, rubber stamping, and gardening. She was predeceased by her grandson Tristan and her dog Dilly. She is survived by her husband, Kevin McKenna and her son Chris Muir, of Augusta; step daughter Kate McKenna and her husband Jeff Damon and their son Matthias; special father and mother-in-law John and Nancy Muir; and many extended family and friends. A graveside celebration of Penny’s life will be held Friday July 28, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Forest Grove Cemetery, Augusta. Donations may be made in her memory to Maine Breast Cancer Coalition, 499 Broadway PMB 362, Bangor, Maine 04401-3460 or the Franklin County Animal Shelter, 550 Industry Rd.
