Obituary

Vassalboro ~ Richard “Rick” L. Thurlow, 61, of Stone Road, died peacefully on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at his home. He was born in Waterville on October 3, 1954, the son of Earl A. Thurlow Sr. and Annette B. (Bourassa) Thurlow. Rick graduated from Waterville High School, class of 1972. He later attended and took courses at Kennebec Valley Vocational and Technical Institute, Thomas College, Univ. of Maine at Orono and the Univ. of Maine at Augusta. He had worked at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery; at Thule Trailers in Winslow, and for many years was self-employed as a general contractor. He designed and built his own home, and retired from the State of Maine as Head Custodian in 2015. Rick was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club. He and his wife Charlotte were avid hikers and could often be seen on the trails with their two companions Molly and Zeke. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother Earl Thurlow Jr. and a brother-in-law Mark Wentworth. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Charlotte Thurlow of Vassalboro; two brothers; David Thurlow and his wife Sherry of Farmingdale and Everett Thurlow of Freeport; a sister Patricia Wallace and her husband Earl of Gardiner; his Godmother Yvette “Jackie” Bourassa of Winslow; his brothers-in-law, Owen, Scott, Larry, Karl, Paul and Bruce Wentworth; his two black labs Molly and Zeke; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins aunts and uncles. There will be no visiting hours. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, June 11, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, One Church St., Augusta, where condolences, memories and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the website at www.khrfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta 04330.
