TOGUS - Robert E. Smith, 61, of Augusta, passed away peacefully Thursday August 2, 2007 at the V.A. Medical Center. \r\r\n\r\r\nHe was born July 20, 1946 in Rockland, Maine the son of Robert S. and Dorothy (Fullerton) Smith. He attended school in Rockland and went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967. He was stationed in Germany and attained the rank of Sp5, earning the Mechanics Medal, National Defense Medal and General Maintenance Medal. When he returned from the service he resided in Connecticut for several years, starting his family and working at Newcomb Springs and Pratt and Whitney. He returned to Maine and was residing in Augusta at the time of his death. \r\r\n\r\r\nRobert enjoyed reading and spending time caring for his dog, ?Sinba? \r\r\n\r\r\nMr. Smith was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Christine Smith Fuller and her husband, Ronald. \r\r\n\r\r\nSurvivors include, two children, Marjorie Beaulieu and Robert Beaulieu, of Connecticut; two special friends, Joe Spence, of Augusta and Duddy Boyington, of Rockland; his uncle, Arthur Fullerton and his wife, Theresa, of Waldoboro; three brothers, Maynard Smith and his wife, Ella, of Warren, Ralph Smith and Peg, of Wisconsin and Duane Smith and his companion, Marlene, of Waldoboro, and his sister, Madonna Smith and her companion, Philip, of Nobleboro. \r\r\n\r\r\nA Graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday August 8 at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road in Augusta. \r\r\n\r\r\nArrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta.
