AUGUSTA - Walter L. Abbott, 88, of Augusta died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. He was born on June 23, 1916, in Belgrade, the son of William C. and Inez (Moores) Abbott. Walter was a graduate of Cony High School and served in the Army in World War II. He worked for a time as a foreman at Bates Manufacturing before moving to Tucson, Ariz., and working as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Walter and his wife, Doris (Cox) Abbott, moved back to Maine in retirement. Doris predeceased him in 1997. Mr. Abbott is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Sullivan and her husband, John, of Veazie; three grandchildren, Mark Sullivan of Seattle, Christine Sullivan of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Nicole Sullivan and her husband, Chris Waldman, of Kansas City, Mo.; along with two nephews. There will be no visiting hours or service. Burial will be at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., in Augusta.
