Sidney – William W. Brown, III, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta after a period of declining health, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in Augusta on December 1, 1937, the son of William W. Brown, Jr. and Louise A. (Hewett) Brown. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Coan) Brown, whom he spent the last 43 years with. In his last four years, Bill was lovingly cared for by Marilyn. He grew up in Winthrop, Maine and lived in various places throughout his lifetime. Bill attended schools in Winthrop and Belgrade. Bill was a life member of Pine Tree Post #887 of VFW. Bill was very proud to have served his country in the United States Army, from which he received an honorable discharge. He had various occupations in his lifetime, including road commissioner of Sidney, NRF Distributors, and Public Works of Augusta from which he retired. Following retirement, he worked part-time doing landscaping for Public Works. He also enjoyed driving the trolley in the Augusta and Old Hallowell Day parades. He liked to drive the senior citizens out to their mystery lunches, always entertaining them with his witty sense of humor. He certainly was a people person and such a jokester. Bill was a special friend to many, and especially enjoyed his daily trips to Damon’s Quickstop to have coffee with the guys. He loved to cook and deliver special treats to his family, friends, and nursing staff. Bill worked hard all of his life to support his family who will forever treasure him for the love, care, and kindness he showed to all. He liked to keep himself busy. He played softball, coached and umpired Little League for several years, and enjoyed gardening and landscaping. He loved animals and enjoyed farming and participating in horse shows. His all-time favorite pastime was playing cards with a special group of friends. He was a dedicated Patriots and Red Sox fan. He loved feeding the birds, puttering in his garage, as well as hunting and fishing. Bill was such a good dancer, something he enjoyed very much in his younger days. Bill was pre-deceased by his parents; his brothers, Ralph and Norman; and his sisters, Phyllis and Althea. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, of Sidney; his children: Marsha Suver and husband Simon of New Carlisle, OH; William W. Brown, IV; Brenda Brown, Julie Morrissette and husband Randy; Everett Brown, Louise Brown and Evelyn Sturgeon, all of NH. He is also survived by his stepchildren whom he raised as though they were his very own: Janet Vashon and husband Peter of Vassalboro, Gary Fuller and wife Ellen of Belgrade and Helen Michaud of Belgrade, many grandchildren, several great grandchildren, as well as his sister, Katherine Gilman of Readfield; brother-in-law, Walter Murch of New Sharon, sister-in-law, Beverly Brown of Winthrop, brother-in-law, John Coan of Gardiner; and several cousins, nieces and nephews; also, a special cousin, William Hewett and wife, Carleen, of Readfield. He will be dearly missed by all the family. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Kennebec Kidney Center and MaineGeneral Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Bill to Nephrology Associates, 710 Main Street, Lewiston, ME 04240. At Bill’s request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at North Augusta Trail Blazers on February 21 at 1:00 pm.
