AUGUSTA - William D. LaPan, 69, of Augusta, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009. \r\r\n\r\r\nBill was born Sept. 23, 1939, in St. Albans, Vt., the son of Stella (Brouillette) and Fabian LaPan. He married Ruth Peterson on June 23, 1967. He was employed at Foster Manufacturing, a woodworking company, for many years. He later worked for the city of Bangor, where he retired. He was most recently employed by Kohl's. \r\r\n\r\r\nMr. LaPan was a member of the Augusta Elks Lodge. He was an avid golfer and a member of Western View Golf Club. His passion was the New York Giants. Go Giants. \r\r\n\r\r\nBill was predeceased by his mother, Stella Mitchell; his stepfather, T.C. Mitchell; his sister, Barbara; and his brother, James. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; his children, Karen LaPan of Portland and Josh LaPan and his wife, Mary, of West Gardiner; one grandson; his brother-in-law, George Peterson and his wife, Pat, of New York; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. \r\r\n\r\r\nAn informal service and open house will be held at Bill's residence, 48 Sunny Acres Drive in Augusta, starting at 2 p.m. Thursday.
